resources on this publicly owned natural park. While the trees can’t be moved to protect
them and their Critical Root Zones, the road can!
Walking through Videra Park, one can easily envision the impact the extension of Randy
Lane will have on the health of the park’s trees. On what would be the south side of Randy
Lane, directly across Lot 34, begins a stand of healthy native oak and flr trees that run the
length of the park east. The trees on the south side of Randy will suffer due to the rerouting
of their life-giving water. Currently, water fiows down the slope of the property toward
Videra Creek with tree roots slowing and drinking the water along the way. The
construction of Randy Lane and the swales on the north side, will completely divert this
water and endanger the trees which rely on it. One can see a real-time example of this
impact in Phase 4 of Timberline Hills, currently under construction. The construction of the
Timberline Road extension cut off the downhill water fiow for a large stand of trees
identifled for protection in the PUD process. As a result, within 2 years of road completion,
almost all of the “protected” trees have died.
We cannot look at the natural resources of the property and Videra Park as compartmental
or isolated; they live, fiow and work together. A Goal 5 determination means the natural
resource was deemed important enough to protect. Until all aspects of codes and
measures designed to protect these resources have been fully implemented and met, the
applications for SDR 25-02 and PDF 25-01 need to be denied.
Sincerely,
Julie Butler
3234 Jayhawk Ct.
