University of Oregon
Indoor Football Practice Facility
Sign Variance Application January 22, 2025

5
o Sign Area: 696 Square Feet (
o Permitted Sign Area: 550’ (Length of perimeter wall) x 0.5 square feet = 275
Square feet.
Southern “O” Wall Sign
o Sign Dimensions: 5 feet 10.5-inch-wide x 8 feet High
o Sign Area: 47 Square Feet
o Permitted Sign Area: 580’ (Length of perimeter wall) x 0.5 square feet = 290
square feet.
EC 9.6655 (4)(c) Maximum Sign Area: No wall sign may exceed 100 square feet
per face. The applicant requests a variance for the northern “O” wall sign, measuring
696 square feet.
Descriptions of the requested variances and findings of compliance with approval criteria are
provided in Section 4.0.

2.2 Purpose and Need
The two proposed signs are needed to visually connect the University’s new indoor and outdoor
football practice facilities to the Autzen Stadium Complex as a whole. At 81.5 acres, the Autzen
Stadium Complex is the largest outdoor athletic venue in the region and is intended to be highly
visible and attractive to the public.

The new indoor and outdoor practice facilities are the first facilities of the Autzen Stadium
Complex that vehicles traveling east on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard encounter. The
northern “O” wall sign reinforces this new practice facility's connection with the other University
Athletic facilities within the Complex. The sign's size was designed to be proportional to the
scale of the 130,000 SF facility. Similarly, the southern “O” wall sign reinforces the connection to
the rest of the Complex along the Leo Harris Parkway right-of-way.
