Learn why this is important
[EXTERNAL ]
To: Eugene City Council
Lane County Commissioners
I strongly support the code recommendations of the River Road/Santa Clara neighborhood plan. My wife
and I moved after 39 years in the southeast hills of Eugene to a block north of Irvington in August, 2013. I
was struck by the building sprawl, the removal of green spaces close to us and stifling traffic on River Road.
I attended meetings of the neighborhood group in its infant stages and can vouch for the earnestness and
intentions of the citizens involved on both sides of the Beltline.
The plan was a great compromise for a changing and growing part of Eugene. Community building in a
time of demographic shifts, pandemic and pressures of special interest groups.
No. 1 was always: What do we want? I think the code, with its building height limit of 65 feet,
accommodates the goal of population density increase, but at the same time allows for development of a
healthy pedestrian-business friendly hub to our emerging community corridor.
There is the heart and grassroots hope of neighbors behind this, not special interests or money.
For the people of this 'hood, by the people of this ‘hood.
Thank you for reading.
Dave and Anneke Kayfes
1088 Tyson Ln,
Eugene, Or. 97404
4
