public requirements; and to promote public health, safety, and.general <br />welfare. <br />SECTION III. DEFINITIONS <br />A. For the purpose of this Ordinance certain words, terms, and <br />phrases are defined as follows: <br />B. Words used in the present tense include the future; the singu- <br />lar member includes the plural; and the word "shall" is mandatory and <br />not directory. Whenever the term "this Ordinance" is used herewith, it <br />shall be deemed to include all amendments thereto as may hereafter from <br />time to time be adopted. <br />ACCESSORY BUILDING shall mean any subordinate building.or <br />portion of a main building,.the use of which is incidental, <br />appropriate, and subordinate to that of the main building. <br />ACCESSORY USE shall mean a use incidental; appropriate, <br />and subordinate to the main use of a lot or building. <br />ALLEY: A public gray not over thirty (30) feet wide providing <br />a secondary means of access to private property. <br />?.ALTER: To change any of the supporting members of a building <br />-or structure, such as bearing walls, columns, beams, or girders. <br />APARTMENT HOUSE: A building or portion thereof used or intended <br />to be used as the home of three (3) or more families or house- <br />holders living independently of each other, <br />AUTO COURT: A combination or group of two (2) or more detached <br />or semi-detached permanent dwellings or dwelling units occupying <br />a building site in one ownership ovmed.and used to furnish tran- <br />sient living accommodations. <br />-AUT011OPILE TRAILER CAIrIP: A parcel of land used for the accommo- <br />dation of two 2 or more automobile trailers occupied as living <br />or sleeping quarters. <br />AUTOMOBILE and/or TRAILER SALES AREA: Uncovered premises used <br />for display, sale, or rental of new or used automobiles or <br />trailers. <br />,AUTO WRECKING YARDS (JUNK YARDS): Premises used for the storage <br />or sale of used automobile parts or for the storage,.dismantling, <br />or abandon,aent of junk,,obsolete automobiles, trailers, machinery, <br />or parts thereof. <br />..BASEMEMT: A story partly or wholly under ground. A basement <br />.shall be counted as a story for purposes of height measurement <br />where more than one-half of its height is above the average level <br />of the adjoining ground. <br />-2- <br />
