evidence that the traffic issues on Hilyard at 32nd has been
an issue in the past and still is. Nothing really new.
Quick point, I see people driving through the alley and
coming out through the private parking lot by The Pad and
Mazzi's on to East Amazon. The Transportation Department
does not want to mention this because it is illegal.
A quick point regarding safety. During the winter months
the height of the building creates solar shading on the park
sidewalk and the east end of 31St Street. This does not allow
the sun to melt frost in the shaded area until later in the
morning. Bicycle riders on the paths and pedestrians using
the sidewalk are subject to serious injury. (I know this is
true, at 7:40 AM on February 11t", I had a serious fall on an
icy surface at my house which is in an area with solar
shading in the early morning hours.) If the building height
was reduced to four floors as originally propose to the
public this would not be a problem.
THE POINT OF ALL THIS, THE HIGH VOLUME OF TRAFFIC
FROM THE PROPOSED BUILDING WILL MAKE A VERY BAD
SITUTION CONSIDERABLY WORSE.
AS A MEMBER OF THIS COMMUNITY FOR OVER 41 YEARS I
AM VERY AWARE OF THE ISSUES REGARDING TRAFFIC AT
THE CORNER OF 32ND AND HILYARD AND THE BICYCLE PATH
