I am strongly opposed to the height of the
proposed Amazon Corners structure. I've set forth a few issues you may not be aware of:
- During the morning, noon, and afternoon "rush" hours it is virtually impossible to make a left
(northbound) turn onto Hilyard from East 31st. There is often traffic backed up on East 31st trying to
make this northbound turn which results in aggressive behavior on the part of some drivers potentially
endangering everyone.
- Pedestrians and bicyclists on the wide sidewalk on the west side of Hilyard are trying to walk/ride
north/south across East 31st at the same time motorists are trying to turn. This creates a dangerous
situation for all users.
- There is access to the Rexius trail (and the nearby dog park) on East 31 st within 100 feet of
Hilyard. This popular trail and dog park greatly increases pedestrian/bike traffic. Additionally, cars
frequently park on the east end of East 31 st so that they can easily access the trail and dog park.
I'm not opposed to the Amazon Corners project, but I think permitting a five story structure in an
already congested area is untenable. The unavoidable increase in traffic is certain to create a very
dangerous situation for those of us who use these streets and sidewalks regularly. Please reconsider
this issue and reduce the height to three stories.
Thank you for the opportunity to submit these points.
Sincerely,
Cory Findley
