Attachment N-3
Page 3of4
Legend or key to above illustration/map, of the multi-stemmed maples:
A. 10" trunk, independent of the three stemmed trunk. Sound tree.
ARIN
B. 12" Trunk, same root crown as D. and E. Sound tree with minor mechanical
damage to trunk.
C. 14" Trunk, independent of the above trunks. Damage to root crown from F.
splitting off. There is a great deal of decayed root crown as a result.
D. 6 " Trunk, shares root crown as B. and E. Very little canopy, tree will fall to
ground in a few years.
'n 05
E. 14" Trunk, shares root crown as B. and D. E. and B are sound trees with
" some potential failure as a result of D. However, these trees will continue
to provide benefits to the conservation zone for decades to come, as long
as critical root zone is not disturbed during construction.
F. 10" tree laying on ground. shares root crown with C. Tree is still alive with
many sprouts. This downed tree will not be around for decades, but it is
a valuable asset to the conservation easement today.
Note: Trees A through E are in need of canopy cleaning as in removal of dead
hanging limbs, ect.
5. Three columnar maples on a east-west line, against the curb of the McGrath's parking lot:
A. The westerly (largest) and middle trees have dense canopies, and no history of failure or
weakness noticeable in the root crown, trunk, or canopies. However, these two trees
lean to the south significantly and have unbalanced crowns, reaching to the south (sun).
B. Canopy cleaning and raising is possible on trees A., but they should be pruned by a
certified arborist, limiting all cuts to less than 3" diameter and subordinate pruning to
narrow the canopy within ten feet of finished grade of the proposed parking surface, and
sidewalk, in the case of the furthest west tree.
C. The furthest east, smallest tree has excellent columnar structure, and desirable leader
unions. This tree requires no pruning.
Please turn to page 4.
