JANISCH Amy C
From:
cindy allen <cindyallen2l@yahoo.com>
Sent:
Sunday, June 01, 2014 10:12 AM
To:
TAYLOR Becky G
Subject:
Cell tower at Cross Fire Church 4060 W. Amazon
Follow Up Flag: Follow up
Flag Status: Flagged
Dear Becky,
I'm sorry have missed you on the phone.
Could you please keep me informed of all activity on the cell tower proposed at Cross Fire Church at 4060 W. Amazon.
Steve Ochs, our former planning board contact, had received notice of several items noticed by neighbors in the area.
* All neighbors within 500' of the proposed tower were
to be contacted in writing about the Neighborhood/Applicant Meeting. Hill Top Apartments is directly across from Cross Fire
Church. According to the manager, neither she nor anyone at the apartments received notification of the meeting.
* The name of the church used on the sign telling about the Neighborhood/ Applicant Meeting was Calvary Chapel. (A neighbor
has a picture of this &
it's being circulated in our community.) Calvary Chapel was also the name used
in the written notices to the neighbors. Steve Ochs told several of us that Calvary
Chapel was also the name used on the permit with the city for the cell tower. But
Calvary Chapel is not the name of the current owners of the church.
The group promoting the cell tower is Cross Fire Ministries and its pastor is Rev. Aaron Taylor. The former church that owned
the property is Calvary
Chapel and its pastor was Rev. Danny O'Neil. There seems to be no connection
what-so- ever between these 2 churches except both have owned a property
that seems to change hands frequently. At the neighborhood meeting there were at least 3
executives from Portland and Seattle present ; the room was filled with multi-dollared advertising but the wrong name of the
property owners was used.
To take out a city permit on a cell tower using another church's name has serious legal and insurance issues.
For one-these towers, especially the larger ones, could be sited in future class-action lawsuits for any # of reasons: health, loss
of property values to the surrounding areas, cell tower noise pollution, fire hazard, tower collapse, etc. The insurance
companies are well aware of this and many are increasing premiums or even denying coverage on properties siting the large
towers.
Was this a reason why an attempt to use another church's name was used.? With what company does
Rev. Taylor & Cross Fire Ministries of Eugene have their insurance? Are they aware of the plans to put
up this large tower?
There is also the issue of currently-unregulated LLC companies buying out the contracts for big $
once they are approved. Who will protect our neighborhood if there are any problems with
this large tower? I don't believe our individual home-owners policy will cover this.
Cross Ministries in Eugene is a satellite of Cross Fire International. Has the executive board of
Cross Fire International approved the proposed cell tower at their Eugene location? I saw no
mention of it on their website.
