BERG-JOHANSEN Erik
From: Kathy Poole <poole2895@comcast.net>
Sent: Wednesday, March 01, 2017 5:19 PM
To: BERG-JOHANSEN Erik
Subject: Amazon Corners comments for public hearing
Follow Up Flag: Follow up
Flag Status: Completed
March 1, 2017
Dear Erik Berg, Eugene Hearings Official,
I am a homeowner and resident in south Eugene in a neighborhood that will be directly affected by the proposed
Amazon Corners development. My contact information is as follows:
Kathleen Poole
3140 Nob Court
Eugene, OR 97405
Email: poole2895@comcast.net
Phone: 541-953-9635
I wish to register the following concerns regarding the proposed Amazon Corners development:
- I am in favor of appropriate development of the commercial corridor on South Hilyard Street.
- The Amazon Corners development as it is envisioned is not consistent with the surrounding neighborhood in terms of
building height (a 5-story building proposed in a residential neighborhood with one- and two-story homes and
commercial buildings); residential density and resulting new residential and business traffic. The proposed building is
out of character with the surrounding residential and commercial neighborhood.
- The proposed building that would house more than 100 new renters would place an unsustainable burden on traffic
flow on Hilyard, 30th, 31st, 32nd, and East and West Amazon in particular.
- Currently it is nearly impossible to make a left-hand turn from 32nd Street on to Hilyard, heading south, at any
time of day, and particularly during morning and late afternoon rush hours. It is already a dangerous intersection that
would be made significantly more dangerous with 100+ additional residents at Amazon Corners and the added traffic
that would be attracted by new business(es) and residents in the building.
- On-street parking would be significantly impacted in the neighborhoods surrounding 32nd and Hilyard. The number of
parking spaces proposed by the developer of Amazon Corners does not sufficiently address the level of use of this new
building and its occupants. Overflow parking on surface streets and in the surrounding neighborhoods would adversely
affect homeowners and residents of the area.
- The added residents and businesses at Amazon Corners would result in increased traffic flow on residential side streets
in the neighborhood, adversely affecting the safety of the household residents in,the surrounding neighborhoods,
particularly all side streets from Hilyard to Harris Street and 30th to 34th.
As a property owner on Nob Court, just a few blocks from this proposed development, I am concerned about the impact
of significantly more traffic, in addition to the inconsistency of the 5-story building with the surrounding architecture
and building heights, both commercial and residential. Added residential and business occupancy in the 5-story building
will result in increased traffic flow that poses a significant hazard to vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic in the area and
will likely result in overflow parking in the surrounding residential neighborhoods, adversely affecting homeowners and
residents in the area.
