CU-14-0, Crossfire Cell Tower
CU-14-0
The neighbors of the Crossfire property are primarily the retired,
the young and those with young families. It would not be feasible
for us to pay the $750,000 or the 2 million dollars that the church
has asked for to stop the cell tower.
Unfortunately, this church where few attend, seems to have been
acquired as an investment for a possible cell tower site and not a
community church-the reason it was permitted in our neighborhood.
The property is in a valley location with immediate-steep elevation.
I am one the hillside neighbors. A Google-Earth search by a geologist
showed that my home at an elevation of 75ft. would be "'eye-level"
to the transformers and antennas at the top of the tower-at a distance
of only 550 ft. Some of the hillside neighbors are much closer.
These towers are suppose to be over our heads-not in our windows at
such a short distance. They don't belong in residential areas or near
schools. The Crossfire tower would be right next to neighbors and
near day-care centers and several schools.
The application is incomplete and there are errors in the pictures. For
example: The 75ft. simulated mono-pine is presented as approximately
the same height as the 25ft. maples on the property. This was the picture
presented at the Pre-Application Meeting; it also appears in the Southeast
Neighbors letter reporting on the meeting.
The Independent Review done by CMS said this tower was not needed. On
antenna search. com there are 40 cell towers and 372 antennas within 3 miles
c 0Yj<_
of the site. The Eugene'says that there are to be as few towers as possible
and that co-location is needed.
According to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, 1 in 5 cell towers are
over the allowable limit. The United States has among the highest of allowable
EMF radiation in the world. One wonders why other countries have fewer
towers and much lower radiation and still get very good cell coverage. But
even with these lesser amounts of exposure-these countries have concerns.
