From:Carol Scherer
To:GIOELLO Nick R
Cc:GROVES Randy B
Subject:PDT 24-1 and ST 24-3
Date:Sunday, January 12, 2025 8:02:09 AM
Some people who received this message don't often get email from waltzn123@gmail.com. Learn why this is
important
[EXTERNAL ]
As this development is currently proposed, I am in strong opposition for numerous reasons.
Primary is the sanctity of human life. With extremely limited access for what is reasonably
assumed to be over 300 cars, this is a death trap if a wildfire or other emergency occurred and
in an area the City has defined as a high fire hazard area having legislated severe restrictions
on fireworks. Additionally, it is unreasonable to mandate no parking on the streets and have it
respected given the number of cars which will be needed by residents with no city
transportation available. Cars parked on streets would severely limit access by the fire
department and emergency vehicles to a resident fire or health event.
Secondarily, but extremely important, is the sanctity of the environment. You have received
expert testimony regarding the critical importance of wetlands for life and the importance of
maintaining wetlands. It is not possible for wetlands to be replaced with man-made creations.
Similarly, the oak savanna, 150-300 years old native Willamette Oaks, is an irreplaceable
Valley treasure and must be preserved.
My concerns are not property values or the impact of increased density on my daily life. I
view increased population as an acceptable part of life and even welcome the diversity a
development might bring. I do not welcome prioritizing profits over the safety of individuals
and over needless harms to the environment. The size of this development must be greatly
reduced.
Lastly, I have been told I need to be well-versed in the codes for my views to be respected or
credible. If so, this is an extremely elitist position and a strong indication that money and the
power it wields holds sway over what is just. Our City must operate for the people and not for
the powerful.
Respectfully,
Carol Scherer
Resident of Braewood
3245 Jayhawk Court
Eugene, Oregon 97405
Appeal Testimony (PDT 24-01 & ST 24-03) - Batch #1 Page 12 of 43
