neighborhoods all around Oregon. It's like Santa Clara/River Rd has such low standards.
Nobody is failing. Nobody is even trying. There is no VISION that other places have. Why
not? How to change this?
Whiteaker Neighborhood used to be seen as the drug dealing area of Eugene and crime area.
But even it has more public businesses for living than Santa Clara.
There is plenty of money in SC/RR and a huge amount of traffic that drives through it on the
way to somewhere else.
If developers are being blamed for it, then how do developers get influenced to do things
differently in SC. Oh, instead of putting in an attractive office building with two
restaurants with a courtyard, we put in a huge ugly storage unit a few feet from another storage
area. SC/RV wouldn't care or notice. Why are we looked upon as low class people, even if we
have money? Why do we act like low level people, even if we have money? Why do we act
like poor people don't appreciate attractive and pleasant places and things. Why do we act as
if standards and aesthetics and beauty and pleasantness can't happen until all of the poverty
and other issues are handled? Maybe that is part of the reason those problems stick around
so much? Are we creating any high paying jobs in Santa Clara? Oh, none of them would want
to be located where they think Sheries is a great eatery?
And nobody here believes that the large open areas along River Road will end up having high
quality construction and open spaces that bring pleasure to everyone. And are attractive. And
if low income housing is built, there won't be anything also built to make living there more
pleasant and fun, for everyone. You will have to drive or bus to that somewhere else. Couldn't
somebody think about having affordable apartments on top of nice businesses? Tree lined
areas???
Please give some more attention into making SC/RR a more pleasant area for every type of
person and family to live in. Make it a wonderful village where all types of economics can live
and thrive and enjoy being here. And have it be very attractive and pleasant and high quality.
Homes and businesses. (....there are plenty of very attractive neighborhoods but you would
never know by looking at the public areas of SC/RR.... Why?)
Thanks for letting me voice these issues. You'd be surprised how many people agree with me
when I bring such things up. It doesn't have to be an either or thing. As an advocate of poor
and struggling people, I still strongly support these concepts. For all people.
Please excuse my typos and rushed writing.
Sincerely, David Illig
Dr. David Illig
4143 Hampshire Lane
Eugene, Oregon 97404
541-636 3836 Cell: 503 936 9050
DrDavidIllig&gmail.com
25
