I'm a UO faculty in the Economics department.
A master plan is required for the University of Oregon to receive a Conditional Use Permit for the North
Campus. The document, however, doesn't provide enough detail or accountability in the area north of the
railroad tracks to constitute a tenable plan.
Yet there is general agreement that:
•A long-term 200 foot setback from the river will help protect the riparian ecology
•The University has good intentions to restore the riparian zone (even if it has no plan to do so)
•The University has no immediate need or desire to develop land north of the railroad tracks
The UO Riverfront Restoration and Education Group submitted testimony with three options that protect the
riverfront, allow for development south of the railroad tracks, and are consistent with the code.
I support the UO Riverfront Restoration and Education Group's three options for achieving a win-win outcome!
Sincerely,
Anca Cristea
____________________
Anca Cristea
Associate Professor
University of Oregon
http://uoregon.edu/~cristea
1
