©~1~~ s
k ~ `s A.
developing sustainable neighborhoods
October 15, 2013
Eugene Hearings Official
Attn: Becky Taylor, Planner
City of Eugene Planning
99 West 10th Avenue
Eugene, OR 97401
RE: Oakleigh Meadow Cohousing, PUD Application (PDT 13-0001) .
I am writing to address the concerns raised regarding the proposed gravel parking
spaces creating dust.I have personally lived and parked my car on just such a parking
lot design .for the last 6 years in my own cohousing community in Nevada City, CA where
we have much drier summers with much.greater potential for dust. I assure you that,
even in this drier climate, there is not.a `dust problem from this gravel parking space
design. The gravel is larger stone (1/2 _ 1") so that it interlocks and stabilizes, rather
than smaller gravel that would create dusts. We are proposing to use it in the parking
spaces, not in the drive aisle, so that cars are moving very-slowly on it as they turn into
the parking space. In addition, like the design for the Oakliegh Meadow Community, we
laid a layer.of drain fabric below the gravel to keep the gravel from working into the soil
below and the soil from working its way up thru the gravel.
We have found this design that combines an asphalt drive with gravel parking spaces to
hold up well over time, while at the same time slowing the storm drainage run off. The
California State Water Resources Control Board, which carefully monitors stormwater
run off in new developments,. considers this approach as one of its Best Management.
Practices for slowing stormwater run off and reducing the pollutants in that run off.
Sincerely,
Kathryn "Katie" McCamant, President
•
■ a ■ • a ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ • ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ • ■ ■ ■ • ■ ■ ■ ■ • • ■ • ■ ■ • • • • ■ • ■ • ■ ■ ■
www.cohousingpartners.com Nevada City 241 Commercial St, Nevada City, CA 95959 Tel: 530.'478.1970 Fax: 530:265.4398
574
