We are very concerned about very local traffic issues, including many arising from the construction of the proposed <br />mixed-use building on the corner of Hilyard and 32nd. <br />1) CURRENT UN-addressed TRAFFIC problems prior to any new building: <br />* Trying to turn left from 32nd heading south onto Hilyard <br />Often long waits <br />* Trying to turn right from 32nd heading north on Hilyard <br />Driver's View of traffic coming north on Hilyard obscured by cars waiting to turn left onto Hilyard. <br />Often long waits <br />* No formal pedestrian cross-walk from 32nd across ALL lanes of Hilyard, resulting in a dangerous strategy of crossing <br />half-way and waiting on the meager island for traffic to abate before continuing to the far side. <br />* Heavy traffic coursing along Kincaid in front of our homess, especially during drop-off and pick-up times for people <br />using Ellis Parker School at the end of Kincaid by Kincaid Park. <br />From our front windows we observe that many cars traversing Kincaid seem not to respect the residential <br />streets 25 MPH speed limit. There is no police enforcement of this limit on Kincaid. <br />2) NEW TRAFFIC Concerns re NEW LAND USE at 32nd and Hilyard <br />* All of problems listed in 1) above WILL BE GREATLY MAGNIFIED with the proposed mixed-use construction at 32nd and <br />Hilyard <br />MORE vehicular traffic created by new residents AND their guests AND clients seeking to use the new <br />commercial establishments <br />MORE pedestrians trying to access new apartments, new commercial establishments, and / or the Amazon <br />greenways <br />3) IDEAS to LESSEN PROBLEMS <br />limit number of apartments / floors in new building. Fewer residents will obviously mean fewer vehicles in <br />circulation <br />assure ample ON-SITE parking for both residents AND for patrons visiting the commercial establishments. <br />repeat: AMPLE ON-SITE! <br />sophisticated TRAFFIC & PEDESTRIAN signal at 32nd & Hilyard controlling flow of traffic and pedestrians in all <br />directions <br />SPEED BUMPS on Kincaid between 32nd and Ellis Parker Elementary School. <br />CONTROL the 'blind intersection' at Kincaid and 35th with, at a minimum, a 4-way stop sign. As we travel south <br />on Kincaid from our homes on Kincaid, it astonishes us that there is NO traffic control there at all! PLEASE explain this: <br />only one block away at the corner of Harris and 35th there is a STOP sign for traffic wanting to turn left or right onto <br />35th, while at the much "blinder" intersection of Kincaid and 35th there is nothing. <br />
