Our membership includes hundreds of Eugene
citizens who support the mission and values of the Oregon land use program. Among these
Oregon values are the provision of equitable and diverse housing opportunities.
We write to encourage you to approve the proposed Amazon Corner development. Eugene has
been presented with an opportunity to address an identified shortfall in its housing stock using
redeveloped commercial land in a way that is complimentary to the surrounding area, promotes
increased alternative transportation, and makes efficient use of existing infrastructure.
As part of the Envision Eugene process, the Eugene City Council decided to accommodate all
future multi-family need within the current UGB. A subsequent inventory found that Eugene
does not have sufficient vacant multi-family land to accommodate its identified 20-year needs.
Thus, a portion of the city's future need must be accommodated on redeveloped land. The
proposed Amazon Corner development helps address this multi-family shortfall.
Sincerely,
Mia Nelson
Urban Specialist
1000 Friends of Oregon
P.O.
