I was made aware of this as it has been buzzing
through the neighborhood as a potential concern. Upon reviewing the project, and what is available of the plan,
I feel I must make a statement to the city.
Improper preparation for such a project is very likely to cause traffic jams, danger to bicyclists and pedestrians
as well as hazardous driving through neighborhoods drivers will use to avoid these issues.
In review of the traffic study it was found that this study was not done during peak traffic hours. (cite: R-
9.8650-F4.1.1, 2, 4, 5, 6-F-4.4.9-F-5.1) I believe this to be a huge, and simple to fix, oversight.
Please - for your community. Re-execute the traffic study, during hours of traffic and do not allow for this
construction until the area is primed for it, so that you and your team may better understand what you are doing.
Many of these issues can be addressed with the implementation of the addition of crosswalks, speed bumps on
the surrounding neighborhood streets at a minimum. This should be done before this project is approved and
continued, as otherwise, the potential for harm - especially to residents of the neighborhood when cars attempt
to avoid these future traffic jams.
I come from Tucson Arizona where it is standard practice for the city to sell out to corporate entities and fulfill
their wishes, and not the wishes of the people. This is part of why I moved to Eugene, OR and, so let's see how
responsible you folks are here. I am quite interested to see if voices are heard, or if Eugene has already become
a corporate masquerade like Tucson has.
Thank you for your time, no response is needed, I would love to see action though!
Mike
