FT,~z -In
TAYLOR Becky G
From: Sandy Thorns <sandythoms@msn.com>
Sent: Wednesday, October 16, 2013 1:35 PM
To: TAYLOR Becky G
Subject: Road Safety
Please forward to the Hearings Official.
Thank you,
Sandy Thorns
Dear Hearings Official,
Within the past 3 weeks, I have had 2 friends get into SERIOUS bike accidents causing traumatic brain
injuries. A child in our neighborhood recently crashed on her bike resulting in a trip to the doctor for x-
rays. An adult male bicyclist was killed on Howard Avenue recently in a collision with a car. A 12 year old boy
was involved in a serious bike accident with a car at a street crossing with blinking yellow lights!
I URGE you to please, take the safety of Oakleigh Lane seriously and look very closely at all of the evidence and
data that has been presented to you by the Oakleigh Lane residents and Paul Conte, regarding the improper
classification of our road by the City and also Access Engineering, and the complete disregard for the safety of
it's residents and FUTURE residents.
For Access Engineering to say there is no increased risk by adding 47 cars, 168 additional trips to our street is
simply ignoring statistics! The addition of just one car will increase risk. The addition of 28 more families
riding bikes on our street will increase risk! For Access Engineering to say there will be no increased risk is just
flagrant misrepresentation and downplaying reality!
Access Engineering may say that the additional risk is within an acceptable threshold in their minds, but to say
there is no additional risk is completely inaccurate. Increasing traffic by over %100 on a very narrow
unimproved access lane is going to add risk, no matter how you want to twist the numbers in your
favor! Oakleigh Meadow Cohousing should be concerned about their own residents too!
Sandy Thoms
135 Oakleigh Lane
18 year resident
620
