This requires significant private investment from the wireless industry. <br />Did you know? <br />The wireless industry is <br />preparing consumers for the <br />next era of connectivity. Since <br />2001, wireless carriers have <br />made nearly $300 billion in <br />sustained capital investment in <br />the United States, not including <br />investments made in spectrum.' <br />The U.S. wireless industry is <br />valued at $195.5 billion, which is <br />larger than the publishing, <br />agriculture, hotels and <br />lodging, air transportation, <br />motion picture and recording <br />and motor vehicle manufacturing <br />industry segments.' <br />Cell sites are a vital part of today's infrastructure, making wireless <br />investment and faster network construction more important than ever before: <br />• Cell sites enable consumers and businesses to get connected wherever they are. <br />• Increasingly, customers are going wireless, choosing to connect via newer <br />technologies and products rather than older ones, making capacity and cell <br />coverage more important than ever before. In fact, approximately 2 out of 5 <br />American adults live in wireless-only households' <br />Individuals and households are not the only ones who are going wireless. <br />• Businesses increasingly depend on strong wireless service to carry their <br />employees through the work day. 94 percent of small businesses surveyed <br />use smartphones to conduct business and mobile technologies are saving <br />U.S. small businesses more than $65 billion a year.' <br />• Public safety is improved by the poi/\ier of mobile cornrnunications as a <br />critical tool for first responders in emergency situations Mobile phones <br />provide caller location and callback information, enabling quick and <br />accurate emergency reporting. <br />AT&T is committed to expanding and improving wireless network infrastructure to deliver the quality high-speed <br />services our customers demand. <br />AT&T has invested nearly $119 billion in its wireless and wireline networks in the U.S. over the past six years.
