Calvary Fellowship, Danny O'Neil, and the Future of Christianity... I Cushman's Chronicles 6/8114 12:25 AM
it is worth: although we are chosen as vessels to share the gooca
news, the news and gift in and of itself are wholly adequate with or
without us perfectly delivering any part of it. You can be a devout
follower of modern American Christianity and never know Christ
if the focus on doctrine and creeds trumps all else. Theology at its
core, however is an unadulterated attempt to know God more and
to the fullest. The tough questions that you suggest need to be
asked are the reason it exists.. misused? Absolutely.. outdated?
Hardly. Just my two cents. Believing something without thinking
through why you believe it is rediculous I'm with you there, but
the truth is what it is. Jesus either existed or He didn't. There must
be certain "absolutes". The rest indeed is dependent on your
perspective, and should never create rifts in the Christian
community, but some of it has to be black and white.
What my conclusion is simply is summarized by stating that there
will always be churches more interested in whether you are a
calvanist or whatever else, but they reflect neither the message nor
the person of Christ. Having said that His message and offer is
wholly adequate and (I would suggest) irresistible (ephesians 1)
with or without our imperfect misdirected American church. No
one should be afraid of questions if they truly seek the truth, and
should invite your inquiry but that is frankly theological
exploration is it not? At some point the truth is black and white.
Or maybe we are saying the same thing? Lol..
REPLY M DECEMBER 11, 2011 AT 12:53 AM
3. altrecords says:
I loved reading this-not the news, of which I was just recently made
aware-but for how you were able to articulate your take on this. I
was appalled that Danny was hit with these kind of accusations,
and that this encouragment to think for yourself was so
discouraged there. And I would imagine that would happen in
most churches in the evangelical tradition. I am of a similar mind
and spend quite a bit of time posting on similar issues.
In any event, I hope you find a church home that works for you,
because that is necessary, to a large degree. Going at it alone
without that support is a tough go, (I should know, tried that for a
long time and it was not succesful) and although no church is likely
going to line up with your particular point in your walk, hopefully
you'll be able to identify (or the Spirit will for you) what works the
http://cushmanschronicles.com/2011/12/04/calvary-fellowship-danny-oneil-and-the-future-of-Christianity/ Page 5 of 6
